Burma – a long-established destination
Burma/Myanmar has always been of interest to adventure travellers. We have a wealth of experience with this beautiful but long-suffering country and have been running adventure tours here for years. We have always believed that mass scale tourism was inappropriate, but small scale responsible tourism was beneficial to the Burmese people.
Burma - one of our most popular destinations
Interest has risen dramatically since January when the full tourism boycott was lifted, with a 50% increase in enquiries and bookings. This growing demand means Burma has risen to become one of our most popular destinations, with our Best of Burma tour proving our second most popular tour to South East Asia. In fact of the eight departures running until the end of September, half are already fully booked.
Burma – travel with an experienced operator
We were aware that Burma would soon become a top emerging destination (as voted for in the 2011 Wanderlust Travel Awards) and that tourism would need to be carefully managed. Our well-established tours give travellers a minimal-impact means of travel to Burma should they wish to go and see for themselves.
Our operations abide by the following principles:
- We do not use the government controlled Myanmar Tours & Travel (including any of their many affiliates), and avoid, where possible, government controlled infrastructure
- Our programmes in Burma are operated by a small, private company, owned and run by a local Burmese family
- We use privately-owned hotels and transportation - including airlines - and make direct enquiries on ownership before establishing new contracts
- We have a small - but very select - number of guides who regularly work with our groups and they try to advise our clients of both opportunities and potential pitfalls with regards to spending their personal money whilst in Burma.
