Just booked this tour and very excited... even if it is 7 months away!! Had a nightmare finding suitable flights but got there eventually! Get in touch if you book this trip or want any info about flights (I've looked at that many internal/international flights that I now consider myself an expert!!) Hope to hear from some fellow travellers soon...

Considering this tour...

Hello, Sarah!

I'm considering booking this tour (money permitting!) - it'd cover my birthday, as it happens - but would appreciate any further info you have about flights etc before booking. Spill! :)

I'm assuming you're travelling from the UK, by the way - is that right?

Flights etc!

Hiya DomM!

Yes we are travelling from the UK - we live up north but flights were a lot cheaper from London so we are travelling down to London the night before the flight.

Flights were a bit of a nightmare, but I finally managed to get some decent ones!!

I booked a return from London to Miami with Virgin (through Expedia) for £350 departing at 09:35 on Saturday 13th June and returning at 19:10 on Saturday 27th June... this was a really cheap flight!!

Then Miami to Cancun with Mexicana departing 20:40 (booked through tacaairlines.co.uk) for about £140.

Then Guatemala City to Miami with Taca departing 10:05 on 27th (booked through tacaairlines.co.uk) for about £150 I think?

So all in all we paid about £600 each. I looked at EVERY option for flights and this was definitely the cheapest way of doing things... the only down side is that we need to collect our bags at Miami then check them back in. But we can cope with this to save £200 each!! The alternative is to book all the flights with one company, then your bags will go right through, but these flights were about £800 each.

Let me know how you get on and get in touch if you want any further info.

Happy new year!!
Sarah

Woot Woot, not long now til the trip. Pity about the Swine Flu but hey as long as they let us in the country there's nothing stopping a good time. At least we have about 6 or so weeks for them to find a vaccination and then all systems go.

Hi!
I'm booked onto this trip too! Bit nervous as I've never been on a holiday like this and I'm travelling on my own :-S

Hi all,

You are all going to have such a great time.

I did this tour 3 years ago and out of 8 Imaginative Traveller tours I have been on I have to say that I still think it was the best one!

Don't be nervous, it's all great!

Any questions about the trip, please let me know.

Best wishes
Kelly

I will be so gutted if we can't go... yeah you are right Rebecca, at least they have 6 weeks or so to find a vaccine! Fingers crossed it all calms down by then!

Flights etc!

HI all,

Just wondered what time your flights were getting in and if you have any transport arranged?

Hi,

I actually land quite late on the Saturday night (think I land between 9 and 10 pm). I arranged transport to the hotel through Imaginative Traveller because even though it came to about £60, I thought it was probably sensible what with landing quite late and travelling on my own!
What time do you guys arrive?
Also, if Kelly or someone reads this, I appreciate it might be difficult to comment, but when is it likely that a decision will be made on whether the trip will definitely happen due to the swine flu outbreak?

Cheers,

Ant

Swine flu

Hi Ant,

I think we get there quite late as well - about 8.30pm. We have not arranged transport, but I would have done the same if I was arriving by myself!

In regard to swine flu - I have been monitoring it and although the foreign office are advising against non-essential travel, WHO are NOT recommending travel restrictions. As far I am concerned I am still wanting to go!! I have spoken to my travel insurance and they say we are covered, the airline are still running flights and my doctor has said there is minimal risk!! And I think we are only in Mexico for a couple of days - the majority of the trip is in Guatemala and Belize?

I really hope it goes ahead... it hasn't been in the news much recently, has it?

Fingers crossed!

Thanks Sarah, that's good to know - I've been keeping an eye on it but not in that much detail. I'm certainly not going to be put off by it, especially with us only being in Mexico for one night! I'd be devastated to have a second holiday fall through!
Not long now... starting to get excited!!!

Hi Ant,

A decision will be made in the next couple of days as to whether we are able to operate this trip. As a tour operator we are bound by the British Foreign Advice travel advice so please be assured we will be in touch with you all as soon as possible.

Best wishes,
Kelly

Cancelled trip :-(

Hi,

Suppose you have all heard by now that the trip is cancelled :-(. So disappointed... however, we are still going as we are unable to get a refund on flights and insurance company will only pay out 72 hours before departure IF foreign office advice still stands.

If anyone else decides to still go let me know. You can email me at sarahsunley@hotmail.co.uk

:-)

Hi Sarah and all,

I'm so sorry that we have had to cancel your trip and understand how disappointed you must be. As I mentioned before we are bound by the foreign office advice, and we are cancelling the trip at this stage to allow travellers as much time as possible to make alternative arrangements.

We understand that whilst we are aware some people might be happy to travel that others are concerned about visiting anywhere in this area, and some of the other passengers on your tour had definitely wanted to cancel.

I'd like to wish you all the best and I am sure you will have a wonderful time once you get there.

Best regards
Kelly

Change of foreign office advice

Hi Kelly,

The government has now changed its advice on travel to Mexico... any chance this trip can now run?

Hi Sarah,

I am really sorry but I have only just seen your post so I do apologise for the delayed reply.

Unfortunately it's not possible for us to reinstate the tour at this stage.

Once again I'm so sorry and hope that you will be able to enjoy your travels despite these problems.

Regards
Kelly
