2 questions.
We are getting varying advice on the need, or otherwise, for pre holiday anti malarial drugs prior to going on this family trip. Does anyone have any experience or advice - from this or previous years?.
Second - we are going on the Fabulous Thailand trip beginning 8th August 2009 - would be happy to make contact with any fellow travellers.

Hi Williams
For up to date information your doctor/travel nurse would be able to advise on the best precautions to take. Malaria dose exist in Thailand but it's not a wide spread problem.
Hopefully some of the other group members will see your post and be in touch.
Best Wishes

malaria tablets
My family have just returned from Fab Thailand trip. We were advised to take malarone tablets to cover us for the 2 day period that we were in the Hilltribe village. This meant tablets for 2 days before, 2 days while in the area and then 7 days following. The other families with us were not advised to take any tablets.
We used 55% deet spray and clothing which covered legs and arms. This proved highly effective and probably in hindsight would have sufficed. Throughout the whole 15 day trip, 2 of my children never got a bite at all, 2 other members a few and myself who is normally eaten alive by bugs, 2 bites.
I hope this is helpful and have a great trip, you will not be disappointed
