Hello,

I am off to India in a couple of weeks and need a bit of advice with regards to money.

I have read that Rupees and American Dollars are the best currency to take, but on a recent trip to the bureau de change, I was told to take Stirling only. This is due to the fact that I cant buy ruppees in this country withour declaring it when I land and have the risk of taking it off me, and if I was to take American Dollars I would have to change these back to Stirling or Rupees.

If someone could please recommend the best option for money while I am away, I would be very grateful.

Many Thanks,
Sam

HI Sam

I would suggest that you take stirling and change this as and when you need to you should be able to change some on arrival at the airport.

regards
Sue

Thanks Sue!

Would you recommend taking travellers cheques too? I'm doing the North Indian Highlights tour and was worried that I wouldn't be able to change these on my journey?

HI Sam

Travellers cheques can sometimes be a bit of a problem, due to banks being closed or hefty queues. Personally I would use ATM's or credit cards.

Unless anyone reading the forums has recently travelled to India and has had experience with travellers cheques and can give up to date information.

Regards
Sue

Obviously travellers cheques are secure but in my experience cashing them in India can be a long a bureaucratic process. Perhaps take a few as emergency cash ...
