I was interested in your Machu Pichu trips in peru. I read that you need to have a yellow fever for all amazon trips. Since all the trips have the overnight stay in the jungle please advise if it is absolutly necessary or up to our physician. I would rather not have the yellow fever vacination for a 1 or 2 night stay.

Yellow Fever

Hi nesbit12,

Thank you for your post checking up on the Yellow Fever vaccination. I'm afraid this is mandatory for travellers going on Amazon jungle trips and is mentioned in all our trips dossiers as follows:

"It is now mandatory for all tourists travelling into the jungle area of Peru to carry an up-to-date Yellow Fever vaccination certificate with them. The vaccination must have been had at least 10 days before departure, and you will be required to carry your vaccination certificate with you as proof."

This has been in effect since July 2006 and remains current.

Many thanks,
Kelly

Hi nesbitt12.

I have just come back from Peru including a 2 night stay in the Amazon, and none of the authorities even looked at my yellow fever certificate so you would probably get away with it, however as Kelly says Im Trav have to say it's mandatory as that is what they are told, so it may well be the case that you won't be allowed on the tour, even if you would be ok travelling independently.

The vaccination covers you for 10 years so once you have had it you will be covered for any future travel into similar areas.

Hi Kelly,
We are doing the Inca Explorer tour in September and IT tells us we need the Yellow fever vaccination.
Is this necessary for this trip, I didn't think we were going to jungle areas.

Inca Explorer - Yellow fever?

Hello annemc,

Thank you for booking and for your post. I checked our Inca Explorer dossier but cannot find anything about the Yellow Fever certificate:

Please could you let me know when/where you were advised you would need it? You have said, correctly, that this trip doesn't visit the jungle, and I'd like to investigate where you read that you'd need it.

Many thanks!
Kelly

We have booked through Reservations Awardstravel and they sent notice that yellow Fever vacc was required. Sorry, I assumed the information they forwarded was from IT.
Anne.

Thanks Anne - I thought I was missing something in our own information for a moment there!

Best wishes
