Does anyone know what the train is like on the overnight sleeper from Bangkok to Surat Thani? i.e. what type of class and do you have somewhere to sleep?
Had a dig around on the net and can see there are a number of different classes, but just wondered if anyone has done this tour or overnight train and can give me some insight!
Thanks

I did do it four years ago now but the trains are prety comfy. It is an open carriage but there is a guy who is serving beer etc. and he comes round at a certain time and folds the seats down into very comfy beds, each with their own curtain, so it is as private or open as you want. We had 13 on our tour then, so we had pretty much a whole carriage to ourselves. I have done a few overnights in SE Asia and this was the cleanest and most comfy bed I have had! :) This is assuming Imag still use the same class four years later....
Hi Cmaolone
Thanks for your post and thanks to Michael for his reply. For this tour we use a second class sleeper train. A good website if you want to find out more train information is; www.seat61.com
Thanks for the replies! All sounds good. Michael - did you do the Beachcomber trip and if so, what did you think of it? Looking to book for end of Nov this year.
No, I did Bangkok to Singapore and I also did Vietnam highlights last year, which had two overnight trains.
Not sure where the Beachcomber trip goes but I went to Bangkok, Krabi, Penang, Cameron Highlands, Melacca, KL and Singapore and everywhere was awesome!
