Adventure holidays to see Victoria Falls
Nothing quite prepares you for the awesome power of Victoria Falls. At its peak five million cubic metres of water pass over the cataracts every minute - that's a lot of water! Many of our African adventure holidays start or end here and most of our overland expeditions spend several days in either Victoria Falls town (Zimbabwe) or over the border in Livingstone (Zambia) allowing for numerous optional activities such as white water rafting in the gorges, bungee jumping from the bridge, canoeing on the Zambezi, elephant riding safaris and spectacular flights over the falls.
Experience one of the natural wonders of the world on an adventure tour to Africa and Victoria Falls with Imaginative Traveller.
Victoria Falls Facts
It is twice the height and 1 ½ times wider than Niagara; The spray can be seen over 30km away
Plunging 100m into a vertical chasm and spanning 1 ½ km, it is the biggest curtain of falling water in the world
During high water (Feb-Apr) in full flood years you can’t see the falls on foot from Zimbabwe due to the spray
There are 5 different falls – 4 in Zimbabwe and 1 in Zambia
At Rainbow Falls at full moon a lunar rainbow – or ‘moonbow’ – may be seen
Because of the spray, the nearby rainforest is the only place on earth that it rains 24/7
At low water (Sep-Dec) you can swim in a natural pool right on the edge of the falls
Until 1905 the Zambezi River was crossed above the falls in a dugout canoe towed by a steel cable
The bridge, the first across the Zambezi, was built where spray from the falls would fall on passing trains
Why visit Africa with Imaginative Traveller
Itineraries
With over 20 years of experience and expert knowledge we make our wildlife safari holidays very special. Our itineraries reflect decades of client and tour leader feedback and are carefully designed to give adventure travellers the best safari experience possible. On an Imaginative Traveller safari we help you discover authentic Africa, not just scratch the surface.
Value
Affordable adventure holidays with plenty of inclusions and NO single supplements for solo travellers! Our adventure tours to Africa start at £360.
Added Value
Our safari holidays offer more added value than many of our competitors. For example, it can often be an optional extra to go to the quintessential game park, the Masai Mara (INCLUDED with Imaginative Traveller); our safaris offer the best value for the number of game drives included; driving days are less; many competitors’ trips start and finish in the same town so you waste time doubling back; and there are no hidden costs on Day 1 as you can arrive any time (many competitors’ trips start at 7am thus paying for an extra night). In addition, on our safari holidays you only need to help put up your tent (and down again). No shopping, cooking, cleaning of the truck and the dishes as with some of our competitors!
Grassroots travel
Stay with people you've only read about, visit places few have seen and use a variety of local transport to really experience the culture. As well as enjoying incredible wildlife experiences on day, night, walking, boat and even balloon safaris you get out into the heart of a country so that you’ll want to return time and time again.
Park Fees, Permits, Local Payments and Extras
With many companies, park fees and permits are extra. On an Imaginative Traveller safari holiday all these are included and clearly listed as part of the final price whether this is as a local payment or in a breakdown of price so you can see exactly how much a trip is going to cost. Unlike many other companies, Imaginative Traveller pre-purchase gorilla permits, thus on gorilla safaris your permit is guaranteed. Most meals are included plus of course in the game parks there is little you can actually spend your money on anyway! Thus once you are there, Africa can actually be a very cheap destination.
Local leaders
An experienced English-speaking guide and professional driver accompany every Imaginative Traveller safari - chosen not only for their local knowledge, but perhaps more importantly, for their "people skills". They're from the country we're visiting so speak the language, understand the culture and wildlife and know the history. They are passionate about their homeland and will provide insights that you would never discover independently.
Flexibility and Fun
Our small group adventure tours offer convenience, security and companionship with the freedom and flexibility for you to make your own discoveries independently.
Unique Product
Overnighting at a remote bush camp in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, swimming with whale sharks in Mozambique, walking with lions in Zimbabwe, spending time with local children at the East Africa Mission Orphanage– just some examples!
Small Groups
Small numbers have less impact on the environment and offer more chance for cultural interaction.
Responsible Travel
At the heart of ALL our adventure and activity holidays to Africa. By 'going local' we ensure that the economic benefits derived from your holiday remain with the communities that you visit. We only uses lodges and guides who observe the regulations for appropriate conduct when wildlife watching. We always heed the regulations of a park or reserve and work hard to ensure our impact on the environment is minimised. We also visit certain local projects on many of our tours – the School of St Jude at Arusha in Tanzania, the East Africa Mission Orphanage near Nakuru in Kenya and the Khama Rhino Sanctuary.
You may only travel to Africa once so make the most of it on an authentic and affordable adventure holiday with Imaginative Traveller.
